Hot Lips Makeup Tips

A hot makeup trend this season is bright or neon-colored lips. Makeup artist Carmindy says that the key to making a bright lip work best is to keep your eyes and face neutral, but I've seen Rihanna with blue eyeshadow and neon orange lips and it looked fabulous. If you've got the 'tude to pull this trend off, we've got a few tips.4 Steps to Hot Lips.

1. Use a natural blush to bring out the subtle color of your cheeks.

2. If you need coverage, use a light foundation or tinted moisturizer.

3. For the eyes, pick a neutral shade that’s close to your skin tone and finish with a heavy coat of mascara.

4. Go for it! Pick your favorite red, pink or even a neon orange lip-stain or lipstick. You can choose a matte color and add a clear gloss to emphasize the color.

How to Choose the Right Pink Lipstick for Your Skin Tone

If you’re cringing at the thought of bright orange, I’ve seen women other than celebrities wearing the color and they looked great. You might need to experiment to get the right shade, especially when it comes to the day-glow colors.

Here’s a quick guide for choosing shades by skin tone:

Fair skin (with pinkish tones) tends to look better with a pinkish-orange, like tangerine, and blue-based reds and pinks.

Light skin (yellow undertones) yellowish-oranges, and yellow-based reds and pinks.

Tan skin – corals, pumpkin-orange or reddish oranges, reddish-pinks, purplish-reds.

Medium/Olive – reddish oranges and pinks, fire engine reds. Dark — deep, golden oranges, deep, blue-based reds and pinks.

Another way to see if a shade might work is by looking at which nail colors work on you. Whether the shade works can also have a lot to do with the color of your hair and/or clothing. Although you don't want to match your lip color to clothing, some lip colors complement the color of attire--magenta lipstick looks great with navy blue for example
