Setting Up Application Compatibility in Windows 8
You set up application compatibility via the new Start screen. The reason for
this is that
with the removal of the Start menu from Windows 8, there’s no way to access a
program’s
properties from a taskbar icon. To configure application compatibility, perform
the following
procedure:
1. Open the Start Screen, right-click the program icon for which you want to configure
compatibility (or drag the icon down with your finger) to open the App bar.
2. On the App bar, select Open File Location.
3. In the window that opens, right-click the program’s icon, and then in the settings panel that opens, select Properties.
4. In the window that appears, click the Compatibility tab.
This is where you manage the compatibility settings for the OS. The easiest way to do
this is to select the Compatibility Mode check box and then choose a version of Windows
in which the software ran flawlessly. The version from which you can choose include the
following:
● Windows 95
● Windows 98/Windows Me
● Windows XP (with Service Pack 2)
● Windows XP (with Service Pack 3)
● Windows Vista
● Windows Vista (with Service Pack 1)
● Windows Vista (with Service Pack 2)
● Windows 7
You might also see options for Windows 7 with Service Packs.
